Sterbenz ‘Miles of Smiles’ fundraiser for Abilities surpasses goal

More than 50 participants helped the Sterbenz “Miles of Smiles,” a 5K run and 1K walk/roll/stroll, raise $22,000 to benefit Abilities of Northwest Jersey, Inc. The event took place on October 21 at Warren Community College in Washington, NJ. Thank you to those that participated, donated and sponsored.

This year, for the first time since the event began, the 5k run was a timed event on a certified course. Participants were encouraged to wear costumes, and following the event, the following awards were presented:

Men’s first place winner – Shaka London
Women’s first place winner – Alexis Amey
Largest team – Warren Community College
Best fundraiser- Marilyn Brooks-Lewis
Best dressed – Debbie Burd
Best effort – Kelly Milazzo
Best costume – Jacob Lloyd
Best smile – Joe Murphy

The Sterbenz Run for Abilities was created by Paul and James Sterbenz in 2020 to replace running events that were canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to raise needed funds for Abilities. Individuals of all abilities are able to participate, whether they run, walk, roll, or stroll.

The 2024 Sterbenz “Miles of Smiles” is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 5, at Warren Community College.
